Marui City renewed and reopened as Shibuya Modi, a new shopping center, on 19 November, 2015. Developed from the old Marui, Modi focuses on fashionable culture and foods. There are also cool karaoke rooms in the 8th floor and a travel agency’s office for international travelers in B1 floor.

Just across from the street, there is still the old building of Marui, too.

Marui that used to be and still be.

The underground floors are packed with food and sweets shops – they are typical Depa-Chika in casual Japanese. Other 8 floors of each have clothing, bags, etc, for ladies and men, but not limited. They manage tax-free shopping for international customers.

I’d like to add 2 more places in Shibuya. They are not shopping centers like those above, but interesting ehough!

7: Don Quixote

Don Quixote Shibuya

Their catchphrase is, “palace of super discounts.” The shelves are full of things to the point that there are not enough spaces to walk. You find character goods, snacks, things for daily lives…so many things. They started to sell goods for seasonal events such as Halloween costumes. The vivid things attract people in the street. These days, it is popular among international tourists.

The shop is just across from Tokyu Department Store.

8: Spain Slope (Spain-zaka)

Views of Spain Slope in Shibuya

There is a narrow and cozy path from the central street with Loft, etc, to Shibuya Parco.

The restaurants are Spanish, Italian, French, Indian, Japanese, etc, and every one is fashionable. Shops sell from apparels and shoes to iPhone goods.

Shibuya is a super busy district, but the atmosphere is a bit different in Spain Slope. If you look for something different from massive silver shopping centers, I recommend cozy Spain Slope very much.

For Shibuya 109, Shibuya Parco, LABI Shibuya (Yamada Denki, an electrical equipment shop,) Kurosawa Music Store, Disney Store, Tokyu Department Store & Bunkamura museums and Apple Store, they are here.
